Snow Reports...tell us about your, um, dumps.

Yeah, first proper dump of the season. In wee Ymir in the Koots, we got about 4" in 4 hours last nght. If was so gorgeous falling down in big fat flakes. The snow is fluffy but has a nice firmness to it, and packs well. Everything looks so pretty. They're calling for another 5cm today, 10 cm tonight, and 5 tomorrow for Nelson, which will be double that or more up at the hill. Yay!

My local hill 49'North has been open since the 17th ( a week later than last year's opening), but the trees are a bit spooky due to spikes & such so they are pretty much off limits right now. Got 8 inches last night, base on top is up to 46" and the lodge is at 27".

Not going up today as I just hate the holiday crowds. Hopefully the storms will keep rolling in.

Not much around my property (2,000 ft elevation). Keeps switching from snow to rain and back again. Sure have wet dogs, though!!!

Mt Baker got over 12 feet in one storm cycle...& officially has the most snow of any resort in the world...it was 110 inches last weekend...up to 117 now...going up again in the morning

Hey Sean, I wonder if it's going to hit the record it set a few years ago for the world's most inches in one season again? Damn, they were giving people season passes to come up and dig out the lifts I heard.

Anyway, about 3 feet this week and they were closed since Sunday night, tomorrow could be pretty damn good! Of course it's the weekend crowds from down south but they don't ride deep trees so I'll find some lines for a couple of hours (then I come back and work the rest of the day). They're calling it 70" but the ski shop manager e-mailed me today and said that is far short of what's up there as he did a couple of runs today. I guess they were checking them for the morning so some of the employees got the first tracks....awwww. The dogs. Normal operating hours start tomorrow, Friday-Tuesday. Half clear tonight, no snow expected for a couple of days unless that cloud system that seems to be nicking Baker drops a bit toward me. I gotta tell ya, Sean, it's dryer pow pow over here than it is on the other side of the Cascades against the ocean. Float-in-the-air fog fluff! Lived in very northern Utah for 6 seasons in the late 80s-90s and it's damn close to that kind of pow. My first season here surprised me...

Ya know, it might be a pretty good season this year. Two in a row. Savor it!

Vermont has nothing yet. Nothing. Least snow of any November EVER! The ground is bare.

Sorry Tusas! It is a bum deal that you haven't been getting anything. The pattern is drawing a line from about the Oregon/Washington border north only, and everything below that is looking pretty bleak so far. Tahoe is a joke and anybody buying a lift ticket is desperate, Utah is barely operating, and my boarder kids (20 somethings) are saying zero at their local hills (Mt. Shasta NorCal & Mt. Ashland in So. Oregon), and who knows when they will open at this point. The Jet should have already dropped south and pushed some storms through; now it's sometime...maybe...hopefully.

Razr & Jai, you two are in the same boat? Upper midwest and the N/E is getting missed still? It's really strange that it comes through here and then doesn't keep heading east. Even Bridger Bowl over in Bozeman isn't open yet and that's not that far east of here. They usually are pounded by now.

Still sitting at 70" on 49'N up here and staying cold enough so it isn't melting away. Pretty cut up, though, and the trees are sketchy at best. You really have to be on to ride them... Another impulse is supposed to be here this weekend, but who knows? It may end up going through BC. That is one big damn high pressure off the west coast...

Snow dances, we need more sinful pleasure falling from the sky! At least I've got a white world for the Winter Solstice around my property. The dogs are loving running through it again...

At least someone can make turns for us. Seal, you'll have to carry the torch for those of us that are high and dry. Looks like Jay Peak, up on the Canadian border (ahhhh, Canada) is finally getting hit. A foot on the ground and a predicted 10" tomorrow. To bad I didn't get a pass there. I might yet if the snow doesn't fall farther south (think Stowe, Smuggs).

I'm dancing, I've left two bicycles out on the driveway, and no snow tires yet, so I'm doing all the right things to get it snowing. Fingers crossed, board waxed.

Well, after record snowfall in early October and absolutely nadda in November, the beginning of December is showing that the Midwest's "Big Snow Country" in the northwoods of WI, MN, and MI is still worth it's title. It has been snowing every day for the past week or so. About 12-16" in this week has helped the local hills as they make the snow for their bases. My home hill opens on Saturday....Board's waxed and waitin...I am beyond ready....

in wisconsin we got about six inches in early november, and then it melted. About two days ago we got another two inches, so it pretty much sucks

Latest weather prediction for my area is snow starting on Saturday and going all week. There's a big wet messy one coming in but it swung south so at my elevation the weather guys are expecting a mix of rain/snow. Depends on how much warm air comes in with it as the themometer is reading 22'F right now outside!

But even if the precip mixes up down here, it won't on the hill 4000 feet above me. Should be good on Monday & Tuesday (no crowds) then they close for 2 days. If it does keep up then Friday should be another really good opening day with no tracks getting made during the dump. I've learned to really appreciate a hill that closes mid-week!

Just hoping it keeps coming and heads east to all points in your directions! Still having a hard time realizing that Baker has 115" already... but I'm not whining!

Ain't a-gonna whine about what's falling outside right now. Heavy dump, over an inch in the last 1/2 hour alone, not a breath of wind, and there's a winter storm warning from NorCal to up here in Washington into Canada. This looks like a really good storm that'll add feet to the 80" on my local hill if it keeps up. Did get a couple of inches down here Tuesday night but yesterday went to 44'F and bluebird so the ice layer that is on the roads is sure gonna make the drive up a bit dicey.

But I love opening day Fridays! Untracked and empty. Get the powder sticks waxed, boys & girls. It's happening!

Good for you, Jasmine! You and your honey are gonna have some SERIOUS fun. I sure do hope you happen to be out here during a powder dump! Early Feb is usually a real good road trip time of year for the N/W. Try to bring two boards, an every day riding stick and a longer-nosed pow rider. The snow is very, very different out here, and doing the submarine face plant all the way down the hill in the deep just sucks.

Heavy 50mph wind gusts have come in and they are bending the 90 foot ponderosas on the property and the snow is going sideways. No bullshit, sideways. Power has been flicking, too, so might lose it tonight. Got the wood burner sending out the btu's and a battery alarm clock set so I can head up in the morning just in case! Taking the Atomic 157 and the old powder board as it might be a fluff day. 49 is closed Tues night-Friday morning, so it's untracked.

Real sorry to hear it's dry in the east. Global climate change...it's getting pretty damn obvious isn't it? Honest, I'll think of those that have no snow tomorrow and drop a rock for ya. Best I can do...

Good dump overnight here at my elevation (2,000 ft), 6 inches around the house and it was champagne pow pow up on the hill. Pretty dang fun this morning even with the holiday crowd. More predicted all week as long as the temps stay cold with a series of lows charging in. Tomorrow should be good up on top with more fluffies due in tomorrow night through Tuesday. Still a bit sticky in the trees due to a crust layer beneath from that damn hurricane that blew through here last week and froze everything like iron plate!

But you can guess where I'm gonna be the next couple of mornings. Hope you all are getting some! We're at 85" now.

Christmas Day, just got home from the hill. Oh my goodness it was a SICK untracked, empty lifts, pow pow day. A fresh foot of champagne fluff in the trees, screaming through the conifer stands with it blowing over my head on backside turns. Every bump was air, every landing was whipped cream. Burnt the legs out in three hours since there was no break from dropping the trees off of #3 chair down to midway lift pickup and not once had to wait behind one single person to get back on a chair.

Of course tomorrow is going to be packed...

49 is over a hundred inches and more coming all week. Looks to be a very good new year. Time for the hot tub and a bubbler! Hope you ALL had a very good day today!

Dumping since dark, at least a half foot new out the door and it is just unloading on the hill according to the retail/rental manager who called earlier (needed neck gaitors). Tomorrow morning is going to be a powder board day no doubt...

Surf & snow gods: send this storm east to those that need freshies!

I'm starting to feel guilty about all the pow pow I'm getting up here and posting...

But another foot of champagne, dry 10% in the trees, and got the first three lines in the conifers down to midway lift before anybody thought to follow me in. A couple of kidlets were hooting behind me on run #4... Tracked it up and then moved over to west bowl in the trees and got some more! Broke my rule on not riding weekends, but some days ya just gotta do that.

49 is over 120" of base now and more due tonight.

Jai, cheapest place to stay that I know of is my place. This house is open to all riders that make it (I'm also on the stop & stay list of Standard Films out of Tahoe) but ya have to wash your own dishes. Room in the house and the overflow sleep area is out in the shop with carpeted floors (woodburner heat), but people end up sleeping between sewing machines and stuff!

I'm about 70 miles drive time from the border with the twists of the 395...and Red Mtn. is right over the border with Whitewater being maybe another 40 miles east & north. There's also Summit Lake above that another 50 or so, and farther north is Powder Springs. Look in a Rand McNally and follow the 395 north out of Spokane and I'm slightly south & west of Chewelah.

Welcome any time, but if others are here you'll have to take turns with the shower (I never know when people are coming until they're about to jump in their car for some reason...).

I can't wait to hit up some snow...looks like we'll be heading to Baker in the end of January!

Hasn't snowed since last weekend's fresh foot laying there for me untracked on Saturday morning, no snow predicted and has dropped below zero at night. Today it warmed up...to 8'F.

And started snowing this afternoon and warmed up to 14'F about an hour ago. Temps are dropping as it's getting dark, but it's still drifting down. About two inches so far and isn't more than 10% water content. May be good in the morning...again. But bulletproof underneath right now.

Jasmine, I sure hope you and your hubby catch a bunch of powder days in a couple of weeks. It's been decent since my hill opened Nov.17th and you NEED some fluff time! Baker has more than we do, and we're over 135" of base.

Took my neighbor up for his first day on a board, got falling leaf and was starting to try the frontside edge. Definitely left a couple of butt craters!

Not much new, just a spritzer last night, but packed powder and not hardpack and pretty fun. No treerunning, though.

Storm predicted for tonight and was snowing pretty good when we left so maybe in the morning there'll be some inches on it. 150" on top, 100" at the lodge.

Saturday is his fifth grader's next day up. I even picked up a pair of Helly waterproof shell pants and a parka off eBay really REALLY cheap for her. Next up is going to be mom, and next season will be the 5 year old. That's, of course, if climate change doesn't kill us here in the N/W next year...

Snowing today on top, maybe tomorrow will have some fresh coverage. Storms have had a lot of trouble with the high pressure off the west coast the last couple of weeks. At the top is 147" and 100" at the lodge this morning.

Mammoth is finally getting some more snow and they should get another foot in the next few days.
Their website still shows 2-4 feet.
But I don't know if it will be enough to cover the rocks showing on top.
It may not really be enough till the next storm.

Half a foot this morning, just enough to hide the crusty shit underneath. Been snowing since last night, about 5 inches on the roof so far and big fat flakes still coming down. The sky is acting like it's not going to stop... Looks like tomorrow could be a real good day on the hill with more impulses lined up heading this way. Oh boy, powder time!

Hope you all are getting some!

9" fresh last Friday morning, none all weekend, and it's been snowing since 10:30 this morning. Hill opens tomorrow.

Strange that yesterday the hill reported only 4" of fresh overnight and I got that much here. But the winds were howling again and shoved snow over the top of the hill that filled in the west bowl trees with a solid foot of dry windload sugar. Had to be deep in the trees to find it, stop & go dodgeball riding...and every time I crossed a groomie aiming for another treeline it stripped wax off the base.

The hill is closed until Friday and it is pretty gloomy & dark-cloud covered outside...hoping for more. Six and a half weeks before the lifts close here.

Again I post on a powder day...but my oldest said it's dumping in Mt. Shasta down south so at least I know NorCal is finally getting some. Over two feet in the last 24 hours so far.

7" overnight here, totally dry light fluff, maybe 10% water content. Yowza it was damned good in the tight trees again. Finding new lines that I've never ridden but this is such a big hill. Snowing when I left and more due tonight through the weekend. Damn I hope this series of storms hits other riders, too!!!

Dumping here. 10% water content and spent the day with my fifth grade neighbor again as her dad couldn't go (but we're going up Monday to make up for it!). Her first time in fluffy freshies and she was laughing when she fell and it went "poof' around her. She was finally starting to feel that frontside edge since pow is so forgiving... What a good day and looks like this storm is going to rock for another couple of days.

Hope you all are getting some...

Dumping at Mt Bachelor! Have got over a couple new feet in the last few days!

Still snowing up here, all day long again; another freaking deep pow pow day in the trees & glades. Two school busloads of pre-teen & teens were up and almost all of them were on boards burying nose everywhere. Other than them there wasn't more than 40 cars in the upper lot. Zero in the lower. There were lines everywhere untracked at the end of the day and I couldn't find a crusty anywhere no matter how deep I buried my turns.

Clocked a tree with my shoulder in a glade because my 157 buried so deep it just couldn't make the damn turn that fast and had to do the "roll around the bark" move! I'm sore but grinning. Should have rode the powder board today!

Hey Jarvis, glad you're getting some deep! I've been feeling real alone on this post for at least a month now...

I'm up here in N/E Washington now, moved from Mt. Shasta NorCal in '04, and my local hill is 49North. We're heading towards 200" of base at the moment as the snow report this morning is saying 180" on the ground, still snowing, and more storms heading in. I've spent many good days at Bach & Hoodoo and Ashland, and a few at Meadows & Timberline. I remember when they opened the Northwest lift at Bach, oh those treelines are good!

Yeah, I'm pretty freaking sore this morning and not going up. Three of the last four days have been bombing seriously deep pow pow and I'm just creaking today...fucking hate this getting
