My bro nabbed some snowcat passes at a good discount on Ebay, so we are heading to Grand Targhee soon:

Anyone ever done their snowcat trip? Looks like some nice runs. I have been snowcat or heli boarding before....Can't wait!!!!
Thinking about heading over the weekend of Feb 1-3. Looks like some good snow on the way before then.
Anyone wanna join us?!

Re: going snowcat boading @ Grand Targhee, woot!!
Wed, January 23, 2008 - 9:59 PMYep, on the cat. Take a serious long-nosed powder board with ya!! Nice to have a peep, shovel & probe also along as you never know and stuff moves in the backcountry...by chance you have access to an Ava-lung? Those things work, tried mine out when I first got it by having myself buried and breathing through it. Doing a nosedive into some tree well won't suck quite as bad if you can get your lips around the end of it (carried outside on your chest with the nipple below the chin to the right). At least you'll be able to breath until somebody can dig your head free!
And spare parts for bindings in your pack because when some plastic part freezes and breaks off, you'll be glad you did. Couple of ratchet buckles, screws & nuts, too. Ah hell, you know the backcountry drill!!
Wish I could take the time off and come down there this season. I would just love to do a cat trip on untracked fluff. At least I'm getting a lot of pow pow days here. You go session the hell out of it!!

Re: going snowcat boading @ Grand Targhee, woot!!
Thu, January 24, 2008 - 10:24 AMWOW! Lucky you! I have been on a night cat ride just for kicks but this was way before I started boarding and it was awesome getting to see all that mountain. GT is one of my fave places and the first place I ever boarded!! My husbands band, Moses Guest, has played the Trap every year for like the past five. This being the first year we've missed due to a little baby on the way.
GOOD TIMES!! Not to mention some of the nicest people you'll ever meet! -

Re: going snowcat boading @ Grand Targhee, woot!!
Mon, January 28, 2008 - 7:23 PMNever got GT, but years ago I ended up over at JH. A friend from back east wanted me to come out and ride with a guy he'd met up with who knew all the spots. I went. The guy's name was Doug. We rocked the Tetons for several days. I had no idea who he was until about a year later.
Memories.
You'll have a BLAST I'm sure. I have an extra Fish kicking around if you want to try one. -

Re: going snowcat boading @ Grand Targhee, woot!!
Sun, February 3, 2008 - 8:52 PMWe ended up postponing the trip till the end of Feb. There should be even more snow by then!
Jai, I'd love to try a Fish on pow-pow. How could I get it from you? Shipping seems like a pain, but if you are willing I might take ya up on it!
Otherwise I have my 162 Burton Canyon which I will set my bindings all the way back on, or even my ol' 1987 Simms Switchblade that I sawed a swallowtail on (but when I tested it once at Tamarack i think the tail was TOO short now, so I may need to move the binding mounts forward, which is a 1/2 day project I don't have time for before the trip.
I am so looking forward to this trip.

Re: going snowcat boading @ Grand Targhee, woot!!
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 9:51 AMDAMMIT!!! My bro and I were headed to Targhee (a 5 hour drive from here) and 2.5 hours into the drive they call my bro's cell and tell us the trip is cancelled due to warm snow conditions. ARGH!!!!!!!
So no cat boarding till next year (at least they are letting us take a rain-check)
So instead of riding powder today, I am stuck back @ work...

Re: going snowcat boading @ Grand Targhee, woot!!
Fri, February 29, 2008 - 3:06 PMYeah, really strange end of Feb weather up here, too. Sprinkles of snow but it's been in the 40s during the day, mid-30s on the hill between those little snowshower clouds that roll in. Too weird but at least GT put you on the list for next season. Don't wait next time, hit it earlier! With global warming/climate change we can't count on anything being "normal."
Now if March would roar in like a lion... Need big dumps. BIG DUMPS.
